"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley!

I recently read Mary Shelley's incredible novel Frankenstein, or Modern Prometheus. A Gothic novel by English writer Mary Shelley, which tells the story of the labors of the talented young scientist Victor Frankenstein, who, with the help of his fateful experiments, managed to overcome death itself - to revive lifeless matter. I advise everyone to read this work.

But today I would like to compare the novel and the theatrical production based on this novel. Let's start with what is a novel and what is a play? The novel is a large-scale work of fiction, in which it is narrated in detail about the events in the life of the main characters and their fates. The novel does not have a rigid compositional structure, thematic or genre restrictions. He can describe both a separate important period in the life of the protagonist, and his entire life path. There are several varieties of novels, including the historical novel, the epic novel, the psychological novel, and the romance of mores. A play is a dramatic work that is created for theatrical performances, television and radio performances. Unlike works of prose, where direct speech is only one of the components of the narrative, the play consists entirely of dialogues and monologues led by the characters. Their words are accompanied by the author's remarks indicating the place of action, behavior of the characters, etc. Of course, there are some differences between a book and a play.If a book tells what happened from the point of view of a scientist who challenged nature and God, who unraveled the mystery of life itself, then the play, on the contrary, reflects history through the eyes of Creation, the focus is deliberately shifted. At first, an absolutely helpless creature, unable to even walk or talk, such a huge ugly baby, towards the end turns almost into a person, more human than the scientist who created him; he realizes his loneliness and it torments him, understands the imperfection of the world and passes him a harsh sentence, passionately and desperately longs for love, at least the same rejected creature as himself, but above all - the love of his creator. The director raises very serious questions - about the responsibility of the scientist and the creator not only to his creation, but also to people. The play looks easy, in one breath. Everything is perfect: music, light, sophisticated scenography, dynamically built plot, acting - a wonderful and impressive project. In the book, Creation didn`t commit acts of horrific violence against those who were kind to him, all the murders he committed were caused by the desire to take revenge on Frankenstein for betrayal. Actions dictated by revenge, the Creation makes easily, without much hesitation, succumbing to an emotional impulse and passions raging inside. The book is written as a diary of an outside observer, to whom Frankenstein confesses, succumbing to the effect of a fellow traveler. There are not many minor characters in the play. I think that the piece itself is very interesting and makes you think about different things. It is worth reading and also watching the play.
